Jazz music was central to Beat philosophy and served as the soundtrack for the movement. Much of the vocabulary and ethos of jazz was infused into beat culture, and in fact the word "Beat" was taken from jazz slang, meaning down and out.

Austria is going back into a national lockdown and plans to become the first country in Europe to make Covid-19 vaccinations mandatory for all eligible people as the nation's coronavirus crisis deepens, Chancellor Alexander Schallenberg announced Friday. Schallenberg said his government would look to impose the national vaccine requirement from February 1. Around 65% of Austria's population is fully vaccinated against Covid-19, one of the lower rates in the European Union, where cases are surging.
The national lockdown -- the first in Europe this fall -- starts Monday and will last for 10 days minimum, and could be extended for a further 10 days, Schallenberg told reporters at a news conference in Vienna.
The move comes only days after Austria took the step, unprecedented in Europe, of imposing lockdown measures for all those age 12 and older who are not fully vaccinated against Covid-19.

Portland City Council unanimously passed a fall budget bump Wednesday that added back $5.2 million of the $15 million it from the police cut last year. The move comes as the city deals with record murder rates not seen since the 1980s and a staffing shortage that has led city leaders to consider hiring back retired cops to help keep order. Unrest continues to plague the city.

Strange, dangerous times...
DeleteAngel, Miss Beatnik 1959 is NOT posed with a 1931 Chevrolet. google images to see what a 31 looks like
ReplyDeleteI can't possibly verify every caption I see. Sounded fishy to me, too. Did they still have wooden wheels in 31?
DeleteFunny. When I go into Publix they have frozen turkeys for $.49/lb, turkey breasts for $1.49/lb. And only a few things are missing from the shelves. Makes me wonder how much the 'shortage' is the eneMedia trying to stir up a panic.
ReplyDeleteWhere I live in NW Indiana there are more than just a few gaps in the shelves. !3.00 for a beef and a fry at my favorite Italian beef joint is quite a jump too. But I've had no trouble at all finding all the staples we use
