A Florida woman was arrested Wednesday for hiding her roommate’s body in a trash can so she could collect his Social Security benefits. Michelle Haney, 48, told deputies she found her roommate, Jon Leonard, dead in their Bradenton mobile home in July, the Manatee County Sheriff’s Office said in a statement. But instead of calling the sheriff’s office, Haney stuffed Leonard’s body in a closet for three weeks.
When that short-sighted plan became unbearable, she put the rotting corpse in a trash bin and left it with a neighbor. Haney allegedly told the neighbor she’d come back for the bin later. But after two months, Haney still hadn’t shown up.

The famous Geminid meteor shower will sling bright shooting stars this December. This will be an excellent year for the Geminids, as the shower's peak on Dec. 13-14 coincides with the new moon. With no interference from moonlight, skywatchers can see around 60 to 120 meteors per hour on the night of the peak, according to Space.com's skywatching columnist Joe Rao. Even after the peak, bright meteors may be visible for the next few days.
"It will be the best meteor shower of 2020, no question about it," NASA meteor expert Bill Cooke told Space.com. The best time to watch for the Geminids is about 2 a.m. in your local time zone.

A Queens (NY) woman is facing up to a year in jail after being charged with plowing her BMW into a crowd of 50 protesters in midtown Manhatta. Six people sustained non life-threatening injuries after Kathleen Casillo accelerated her BMW sedan into the group assembled at East 39th Street and Third Avenue on Friday afternoon. Casillo, 52, was detained near the scene and taken into custody before she was charged with reckless endangerment.
