Trump said on his Truth Social platform: “If the European Union works with Canada in order to do economic harm to the USA, large-scale tariffs, far larger than currently planned, will be placed on them both in order to protect the best friend that each of those two countries has ever had.”
The latest US tariffs are set to come into effect at 4am UK time on April 3, impacting foreign-made cars and light trucks. Key vehicle parts will also be hit within the month.
In all the years I've been visiting Ireland, England and No. Ireland, I have seen a total of maybe five American-made pickup trucks. They pay a 25% tariff on importing them, plus you have to have 'special insurance' (read double price) if you drive a full-size American pickup. Fuck 'em - they getcha coming and going...

ReplyDeleteTariffs: Yep. As long as they're reciprocal, all for them. Need a way to be reciprocal, insofar as possible. That is, USA mirrors the other country on the same product if at all possible, assuming roughly equal products (like trucks). Otherwise, need a list of economic equivalencies. The goal should be to eliminate tariffs: let the free market work. To the extent that others (Canada, EU) discourage their people buying our products, we should reciprocate.
