It's not dissimilar to a game of 'What's my line'...

Babs and I have these deep, philosophical conversations at the bar when she's not bullshitting with one of her gal pals. Anyway, they usually get underway after about two and a half beers, if ya get my drift. Last night we got on a jag about just this subject, and it was kind of surprising when we traded slang words and phrases from the 60's and 70's.
One of the funniest moments was when we both - almost simultaneously - said that we had never used the word 'groovy' to describe something.

Doing a little etimology deep dive, it turns out that word started gaining popularity in the 20's. No shit. The word "groovy" originated in jazz slang during the 1920s and 1930s, referring to the rhythm and feel of a piece of music or the physical groove of a record. They were still saying it on the TV show 'Laugh in' in the 60's...
...

They might be responsible for reviving the use of the word because
of this silly little ditty that was actually a No. 1 hit in late '65...

Never heard of this government agency, have ya? Well, their ONLY job is to give your money away to tree huggers and anti-carbonites. Yesterday, DJT slammed the brakes on the whole scam. The Trump administration announced Friday that it is canceling 24 awards previously issued by the Biden administration and the Office of Clean Energy Demonstrations that had exceeded $3.7 billion in federal tax money.
"While the previous administration failed to conduct a thorough financial review before signing away billions of taxpayer dollars, the Trump administration is doing our due diligence to ensure we are utilizing taxpayer dollars to strengthen our national security, bolster affordable, reliable energy sources and advance projects that generate the highest possible return on investment," Energy Secretary Chris Wright said in a written statement Friday.

Many of the canceled projects focused on carbon capture or low-carbon cement. 17 of the canceled projects are from the Industrial Demonstrations Program, which aims to support the decarbonization of heavy industries like steel, cement, and aluminum - a tree-huggers dream and a waste of any penny ever spent on it.

And this stupidity rages on in Dimocrat-run, uber-lib states like Califreakia and Minniesewtoes. Ya know what's at the core of this issue? These woke motherfuckers are so afraid of offending anyone about anything - combined with the fact that nobody there has the balls to stand up and just say no, as Nancy Reagan would have...

In the 1935 film 'Charge of the Light Brigade' - another 'epic' starring Errol Flynn and Olivia de Havilland, the filming of the charge sequence led to the death of 25 horses, which led to legislative action by the U.S. Congress and action by the ASPCA to prevent further cruelty by film directors and producers.

  1. From the top, it was the Beatles, George in particular that brought back groovy.

Horses were cheap, a good one was a week's wages. the song The Old Chisolm Trail talks about a 10 dollar horse being a good one, much like a 40 dollar saddle (a very good one). Fun fact: Errol Flynn was so outraged over the deaths of those horses, he and director Michael Curtiz almost came to blows and he never forgave him.

You and I don't have the same taste in women, but Preston Sturges said Missy (Barb's nickname among the crews) had among the best looks and brains in Hollyweird, so you know a good one when you see her.
